Carl Drew's Blind Justice

Willie Smith was named as Carl Drew’s Codefendant for the murder of Doreen Levesque. Despite having both been indicted for Levesque’s murder, the cases built against both men were so weak neither Willie Smith nor Carl Drew would ever stand trial. Based on the many discrepancies within Robins’ ever-changing statements, witness statements from others who had seen Doreen on or around the time of her murder and scientific evidence found at the crime scene itself, Willie Smith's lawyer was able to build a strong case for his innocence.

Willie Smith’s lawyer would explain, while there is no scientific evidence to link either Willie Smith or Carl drew to the murder of Doreen Leveque, there is scientific evidence to another. Hair samples were found were found on a rock at the scene of Doreen’s murder. They were able to identify the hair samples; however, they belong to neither Willie Smith nor Carl Drew.

The motive used to try Carl Drew for the murder of Karen Marsden was the claim that Karen allegedly witnessed Carl Drew murder Doreen. The claim was that Carl Drew murdered Karen Marsden to silence her.

However, there is not an ounce of evidence to support this theory other than Robin Murphy's ever-changing account of the events that took place the night Doreen Leveque lost her life.

Initially, Robin stated she witnessed Andre Maltais murder Doreen Leveque. More than a year later, Murphy would revise her story to say that it was Carl Drew, along with Willie Smith, Karen Marsden and herself who were present for and took part in Levesque’s murder.

During Carl Drew's trial for the murder of Karen Marsden, Murphy would testify she was not present for Doreen’s murder. She claimed her knowledge of that night’s events came from Karen Marsden. However, Smith’s lawyer would argue the possibility Karen Marsden may not have been present at the murder of Doreen Levesque.

If Karen was not present for the murder of Doreen Levesque, then there is no motive to indict Carl Drew for the murder of Karen Marsden. As Willie Smith's lawyer pointed out there is not an ounce of scientific evidence to link Carl Drew to either murder of Doreen Levesque or Karen Marsden. Carl Drew also had alibis to confirm his whereabouts on the nights both murders allegedly occurred. The cases were built on the inconsistent stories of Robin Murphy.
