Robin Murphy

At the age of 17, Robin Murphy could be described as nothing short of the Master of Puppets, pulling the strings that ultimately led to the wrongful conviction of Carl Henry Drew. Robin was nothing, if not a master in the art of manipulation. There are multiple reports of Robin’s involvement in taking the lives of all three girls, Doreen Levesque, Barbara Raposa, and Karen Marsden. Yet, despite her involvement, Murphy was given plea bargains in both the Raposa and the Marsden case. Plea bargains for two murders in which she was obviously involved. How could the DA even consider giving Murphy immunity without her leading the body of Karen Marsden?  What did the prosecution get in exchange? False testimony against two men, one of those men being Carl Drew. To this day, Murphy refuses to come clean and tell us the truth of how poor Karen met her untimely demise.

“This case began with a 17-year-old Robin Murphy and how she was not only ablet to manipulate the Fall River Police Department, but also the Massachusetts State Police Officer, Sergeant Daniel Lowney. Furthermore, she manipulated the Bristol County District Attorney, Ronald A. Pina and Assistant District Attorney David Waxler’s Office as well as others. A 17year old girl was able to manipulate all these professionals for her own personal gain.

Of her own volition, Robin Murphy was present for all three murders. First, there was a17-year-old named Doreen Levesque. Murphy tried to implicate me in this murder. I was at my stepmother’s wedding the night Doreen’s murder took place. I voluntarily gave samples of my hair and nails. My DNA was not found at the murder scene. I allowed the police to examine my buck knife. It came back clean. To this day, poor Doreen’s case remains unsolved.  I have been fighting to have a DNA sweep performed upon Doreen’s belongings. They will not find my DNA. I am confident they will find Murphys.

Next, there was Barbara Raposa. Robin framed Andre O. Maltais for this one. If the murder would have been thoroughly investigated, the truth would have been uncovered; Robin Murphy killed Barbara Raposa.

One thing many people may not know about Maltais, he had a thing for younger girls. He first began raping Murphy, she was no older than 13, maybe 14 years. It was from that point on Murphy began to use Maltais as her “sugar daddy.” Anything Murphy wanted, Maltais would see her needs met. She could call upon him anytime, anywhere, for anything. It was Maltais who introduced Murphy to the cult by bringing her to meetings. It was at one of these meetings Murphy first met Carl Davis. She learned to master the art of manipulation. She became more independent, doing more and more on her own.

It was at one of these cult meetings Robin Murphy was introduced to Maureen “Sunny” Sparda. She fell in love with Sunny. As Murphy began seeing Sunny more and more, her time spent with Maltais would become less and less. It was during this time Maltais met Barbara Raposa. The two became very close.

Now that Maltais was with Raposa, he did not have the time to cater to Murphy’s demands the way he used to. This did not sit well with Murphy. She developed a strong dislike towards Raposa. The feeling was mutual. When they were around each other, one could not help but bad mouth the other. Such as it was the day Murphy murdered poor Barbara Raposa.

It started out as a fight in the back seat of a Maltais’s car. The two of them began to physically assault each other. Raposa punched Murphy, breaking her nose. That is when Murphy went off the deep end, beating Barbara Raposa to death. Evidence shows that poor Barbara had bite marks all over her body, even on her breasts. Those teeth marks matched the bite of Robin Murphy.

You may be asking how it is that I would know all this. I ran into Andre O. Maltais while in Walpole. I wanted to know why he tried to set me up for Barbara’s murder. Maltais told Police he had a dream in which he was up in a tree with two angels. They were looking down at Raposa watching her being murdered by a guy with long hair, wearing a black leather motorcycle jacket. Maltais said it looked like me! Before Maltais died, he told me the real deal of what happened to poor Barbara Raposa.  That is how I know all this to be true.

For Barbara Raposa’s case, Robin Murphy was able to get herself a real good plea bargain. She received an immunity agreement in exchange for her testimony against Andre O. Maltais. Maltais was sentenced to life without possibility of parole and once again, Murphy walked away with her freedom.

Robin and I never did get along. I never trusted her. She never liked me because of the close friendship I had with Maureen Sparda. I never had two words for her when I was around her. That was until she stole an ID from one of my ladies. The girls had been out at the Sword and Shield, a club in Fall River. Sometime throughout the night, Murphy somehow had stolen an ID. When I was told of the theft, I went to Sunny’s apartment to get the ID back. I knew Murphy would be there. When I asked her for the ID she began to run her mouth. She tried to act tough, like she was a man. I asked Murphy to give me the ID she had stolen. She, of course, began to run her mouth again. I wanted to punch her, but I did not.  I did open hand slap her. She said I would pay for that slap. She came to hate me even more now that I had confronted and slapped her in front of her friends. I never gave that comment a second thought. I figured she’d just find someone to beat me up or something to that effect. Little did I know I’d pay for that slap for the remainder of my life.

People knew Karen Marsden worked the streets. Karen had worked under me; however, that only lasted for about six months. It started when Karen approached me one night. She asked me if she could work for me. I let her. I had her go out with the other girls. She did good but I could tell she was not meant for the streets. Karen was looking for love, but in all the wrong places. I told her the streets were not the place for her. She was a beautiful girl with a good heart and soul. Like I said, I told Karen she was not meant for the streets. She would never find the love she was looking for out there.

Karen would take heroin and go on heroin binges. She knew I hated heroin and would not allow any of the girls to take it. She would take off to New York to see this “trick” she knew there. She would stay until she got sick of it, then she would return to Fall River. When she returned from New York, she would start working the streets again.

One day I received a call from Sunny. She said Karen would like to talk with me about something. I agreed and went to Sunny’s apartment. Karen told me she no longer wanted to walk the streets. She wanted to get her life back in order. She wanted her son back from foster care. She was planning to leave for Florida. Again, I told her she wasn’t meant for the streets, and I wished her the very best.

A week or two had gone by. Someone told me they saw Karen Marsden hanging out with Robin Murphy. I knew that was not a good thing. After that, there were a few times I had seen Karen. For some reason or another, she acted like she was afraid of me. I couldn’t understand this. My thoughts were perhaps she thought I would be mad, or disappointed in her because she had not gone down to Florida.

The next time I thought about this, the way Karen seemed afraid of me, wasn’t until this case broke wide open. After reading all the court documents, I found out Karen was afraid of me due to the things Robin Murphy had been telling her. Murphy kept Karen high on THC, mescaline, acid and anything else they could get their hands on. Robin was telling Karen that it was me that had murdered Doreen and Barbara! Murphy kept drilling this into Karen until the poor girl was so afraid of me, poor Karen would almost shit her pants every time she saw me! I never knew until I read the court transcripts.

All of this came to a head when Murphy after Robin had murdered Karen Marsden. Murphy confessed to Maureen “Sunny” Sparda that she had murdered all three of these poor girls; Doreen Levesque, Barbara Raposa, and Karen Marsden. Sunny told Murphy she needed to talk to the police about this. Sunny called Detectives Paul Carey and Alan Silvia to tell them what Murphy confided to her.

That’s when the allegations started rolling, framing myself for the crimes Robin Murphy committed. Murphy even recruited Carl Davis to help her frame me. I don’t know what she had on him to get him to do her bidding, but she must have had something. Then I found out. They belonged to the same cult. The same cult Andre Maltais had introduced her to.

The police were called but Murphy was never arrested. That’s when her games began. That is when she started to manipulate all of them. They actually thought they had a Charles Manson case on their hands. Even the Dartmouth state Police Daniel Lowney along with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Ronald Pina fell under Murphy’s spell. They knew Robin’s lies to be just that, but they ran with it.

Robin was placed into protective custody- from me, Carl Drew! She was supposed to be staying at hotel 6 in Swansea, MA. I had no idea. Until one day when I was at Sunny’s apartment, it just so happened Robin was there too. Detective Paul Carey showed up at Sunny’s door. He saw Robin and asked what she was doing there when she was supposed to be in protective custody- from me! She didn’t know how to respond to Detective Carey.

Robin had the authorities fly her and one of her lovers, Pam Coady, to Texas under the protective custody clause. While in Texas, Murphy ran up a phone bill of $697 on phone calls to her lovers back home. However, that $697 spent on phone calls was nothing compared to the money spent on other expenses Murphy and Coady accrued on things such as hotel rooms, plane fares, food, etc. Murphy and Coady were flown back and forth from Massachusetts to Texas several times, all on the taxpayers’ dime… But the authorities were being manipulated by a 17-year-old girl.

Protective custody gave Murphy lots of time to work on her story, but Murphy could never keep her stories straight. Even the District Attorney stepped in to try to help her as it seemed every time she had to retell her story, her story would change, and a new version of Murphy’s story would be born. Robin went in front of the Bristol County Grand Jury four times, telling four different versions. Each time the jury could not come back with an indictment due to her conflicting testimonies. The indictment would eventually come when DA Ronald Pina, along with State Police Daniel Lowney and Paul Fitzgerald, read what they wanted Murphy’s testimony to say to the Grand Jury, without Murphy verbalizing any of her statements herself. That is how the indictment came.

First, Murphy said I killed Karen Marsden. That is the version that was read for the Grand Jury. When the trial started, Murphy changed her story once again. You see, Carol Fletcher’s testimony was supposed to support Robins story. Once she took the stand Carol stated it was Robin who killed Karen, but Carol said it was on my order.

When they needed a motive is when this story they concocted really came out. They stated the reason I killed Karen Marsden was because Karen allegedly witnessed me, Carl Drew, along with a man who I had never met before, Willie Smith, murder Doreen Levesque. Robin claimed I killed Doreen Levesque because she refused to work for me. Complete Bullshit! It wasn’t until the week of my trial for the Marsden murder that I was indicted for the Levesque murder. Robin claimed to have witnessed me killing Doreen Levesque. I was found guilty of the murder of Karen Marsden.

On July 25, 1983, Robin recanted her story. This was the first time she recanted, or so I thought. I found out the first time she recanted was actually at my trial while in the back room of the courthouse! I believe this was April 29, 1980. Murphy came back from Texas as met with the District Attorney’s Office. She spoke with DA Ronald Pina, Sgt. Daniel Lowney and Trooper Paul Fitzgerald of the State Police. Robin told them that she didn’t want to say anything regarding the Levesque murder that happened at the Diman Regional Vocation Technical High School on October 13, 1979, because she said that she was not present at that alleged murder.

Again, on May 2, 1980, Murphy was taken to the District Attorney’s Office in New Bedford. Again, she told DA Ronald Pina she was not present when Doreen Levesque was allegedly murdered. She claimed she heard what happened through talking with Karen Marsden. DA Pina advised Murphy she had to say she was present for the murder. Otherwise, it would be no good. He told her it would benefit her to say she was there.

Based on what DA Pina told Murphy, she would say she was present at the Levesque murder. Murphy stated she went along with this not because she was there, but because she was promised. Murphy was promised if she plead guilty to the Marsden Murder, and testified against me, Carl Drew, the DA would see to it Murphy would get a second-degree murder charge with a reduced sentence.

As I said, the day Murphy was set to take the stand, approximately half an hour before court started, Murphy was escorted into the back room where the Assistant District Attorney David Waxler paid Murphy a visit and asked about the Levesque murder. She told the ADA she had already given her statement. She was not present when Doreen Levesque’s murder took place.  Waxler left the room. He returned with DA Ronald Pina. Pina and Waxler told Murphy, she knew all the details so why not just say she was there. It would be to her benefit.

So it was, Murphy took the stand and knowingly lied. I, Carl Drew, would like you, the reader, to know I do have documentation to support all I have said. These are all documented facts.

However, this was not the end of Robins manipulations. Murphy did not get the things that were promised to her by DA Ronald Pina and ADA David Waxler. Murphy has gone before the Parole board many times. Each time she had a different story to tell.  Her 2004 parole hearing was no different. You see Murphy had a case in the Supreme Judicial Court to withdraw her guilty plea. She had a good chance of getting it too. If Murphy did win her case, then they would also have to let me, Carl Drew, go free. Murphy was aware of this. She also was aware the DA Office, Paul Walsh, notified the news that he and his office had sent letters to the parole board, opposing her release.

If one knows anything about the Massachusetts Parole board, it’s they will never grant parole to one they know has lied to them. Plus, someone involved in a high-profile case, such as Murphy’s, is seldom granted parole. The news press will be all over it. That was not the case for Murphy, she seems to be the exception. Even with the office of the District Attorney writing letters opposing Murphy’s release. However, what most people do not know, the District Attorney Paul F. Walsh Jr. himself, called the parole board and requested Murphy to be granted parole. Why? Simple. Granting Murphy parole would put a stop to the pending case she had in the Supreme Judicial Court to withdraw her guilty plea. As I said, Murphy had a strong case and a good chance of winning. If she won, I would also be set free. In granting Murphy, the real killer parole, the pending case gets dropped and I remain incarcerated.

Once Murphy was out on parole in 2004, the first thing she did was withdraw her case she had in the Supreme Judicial Court. But she would end up back in prison. Murphy was pulled over in Chelsea, MA on July 19, 2011. There was a known felon sitting in the passenger seat of the car Murphy was driving. They found heroin in the passenger’s purse. That is when the passenger admitted a heroin transaction had just occurred in the car Murphy was driving. Murphy failed to notify her parole officer of this incident. Murphy returned to custody for violating parole by associating with a known felon, irresponsible conduct on July 19th for her connection to the heroin transaction and failure to report the incident to her parole officer.

This past March 2024, Murphy went before the parole board yet again. Once again Murphy admitted (and the Parole board acknowledged) she made up the whole story and I have been wrongfully incarcerated for over 44 years. Once again, the Parole board has decided to parole Robin Murphy. Despite the fact she admits to lying under oath. Despite the fact, till this day we do not know what she did with poor Karen’s body. Despite the fact she admits to falsely accusing me, taking away my life, the Parole board has decided to give Murphy another chance at freedom while I remain falsely imprisoned for her crimes."
